Thanks for joining me on my sailing journey! I am learning as I go, soaking up knowledge from 'Old Salts' and new cruising friends. I spent the hurricane season in Grenada and am currently sailing on the Sea of Cortez in Mexico before returning to the Caribbean. Twenty Caribbean islands down and the rest to go! I have enjoyed the eastern Caribbean and would love to explore the western Caribbean before crossing through the Panama Canal to head into the Pacific towards my birthplace: the beautiful Philippines.
Wanda Dobson left corporate insurance marketing and is a health & wellness copywriter. She looks forward to new sailing adventures Nov - Dec on the Sea of Cortez, and then back in the eastern Caribbean Winter 2023.
I was First Mate with this boat from 2021 - July 2023. 2018 Lagoon 380 catamaran. Visited ten Caribbean countries and twenty islands from Grenada to Statia.
Joined Captain Ethan, First Mate Amber, and 4-legged crewmember Kona in Carriacou, one of Grenada's northern islands.
Crewed for fellow Navy Veteran Captain Julie on her 44' Leopard Catamaran while we completed a scuba diving certification in southern Grenada. I may see Julie again up island for scuba adventures in St. Croix.
Visited my friend Capt Craig in Baja California Sur to explore the Sea of Cortez. Unfortunately, SV Amarra ( 1977 39' Landfall) sustained damage during Hurricane Norma a week before my visit. He is a popular sailor and introduced me to another cruiser heading north, so I was able to hop on her boat! Cruiser Community Serendipity.
Met Capt. Paula at a La Paz Cruiser Coffee hour and asked her if she was interested in crew for her trip up the Baja California Sur coast to Puerto Escondido. I provisioned, packed and moved onboard the same day. Estrella (Spanish for Star) is a well-equipped, custom-built 2005 37' Canadian made Gozzard.
Joined Captain Chad on SV Heart of Gold, a 1977 Bob Perry-designed Valiant 40 for a sail from Puerto Escondido to La Paz. He makes boat life fun with sundowner dance-offs and acoustic guitar sing-a-longs.
Back in Grenada, I joined former Budweiser Brewmaster (& fellow MSU Spartan) Ed on his lovely Bavaria 51. He has mentored many sailors over the years and gave me lessons on a sail to Grenada's northern island of Carriacou.
When I join Capt. Jerry on his solid bluewater 37' Pacific Seacraft in April, it will be my longest sail to date. We will traverse the Caribbean and U.S. Intercoastal Waterway to Chesapeake Bay.
